Why You Need A Record Label

Record labels in music are the companies that get your music produced, distributed, work for endorsement deals for their artistes, royalties and the promotion of works for the artiste.
Internationally and globally, there are so many lables.
Atlantic records, Universal music group, motown records, Warner Bros Records and many others that continue to shape and trim the works of artiste.
The story is very different in Africa especially Ghana.
In Ghana, an artiste that produces a single hit is quick to start his own label without even knowing a jack about what A Record label is.
A proper record label must have the following departments and even sometimes more.
*Manger
*Accounts $ sales Department
*Publicity/Promotion department
*Production Unit
*Radio and bloggers Unit
These are professionals working in every unit to make the artiste a bigger and stronger brand.
There have been instances in Ghana where artiste left their Labels to form 'their' own. For example, Stay Jay left Under one Entertainment and formed his own label in Ghana, D. Chyme after his hit single formed his own Record label: twi pop records, Asem left lynx Entertainment and formed WDM records.
Interestingly these artiste were better off with their mother labels than their 'shoddy' and ghost records they claim to have formed.

Recently Sarkodie came out with his own label; Sarkcess. Yes! Sarkodie is a bigger brand and with the finances to put together a strong label and this seems the perfect time.
Kid Cudi was a strong force in the hip hop world with Good Music. After forming his own TBT records, Kid Cudi is yet to be heard on the radio.
You've got to remember Record Labes have got marketing teams, press teams, radio
pluggers, accounts departments and when
you get bigger you need help with that stuff.
You need a good team around you. This makes record labels important.

Even Neil Young, an artist known for taking
an anti-corporate stance, recently sang the
praises of record companies , when
interviewed at a media conference. "What I like about record companies is that they
present and nurture artists," he said. "That
doesn't exist on iTunes, it doesn't exist on
Amazon. That's what a record company does,
and that's why I like my record company.
if you are an artiste that wants to do main stream music, then you should probably think about working with a Record Label.
