The rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria seems to be in every sphere. From hockey, football, movies to music.
Nigeria has always dominated in most of these areas of competition but their neighbours seem to be on their toes now and dotting their 'i's and crossing their 't's to withstand the pressure from our neighbouring brothers and sisters.
Nigeria have craved a niche for themselves in the movie industry. Being the backbone of the African movie industry and grooming most of Africa's finest acts.
In the music industry, the competiton is stiffer than the movie industry. Nigeria can't boast of having same dominance as they have in the movie industry.
Talking about some of the crowd- pullers of Nigeria: the D'banjs, the MIs, the Ice Princes, the Tufaces, the wizkids, the Davidos and the list is definitely endless. These are superstars have huge local and internationally followings, made a couple of international collaborations. Not just collborations but top chartting ones of cos.
Like our Nigerian counterparts, Ghana equally have a good command in the music industry. Some of the finest acts Africa has withnessed.
They have graced some of the biggest stages in Africa and performed alongside some of heavy weights in the hip hop world.
The sarkodies,R2bees, Fuse ODGs, Asems, VIPs,Saminis, Shatta Wales, Efyas and again the list is as tall as....
Ghana and Nigeria are topping the MTV Africa Music Awards nomination list.
R2bees, the Ghanaian duo, proving the point that they are not just a group but the 2013 Ghana Music Awards artiste of the Year. R2Bees will face stiff competition from Amani ft
Radio and Weasel – ‘Kiboko Changu’ (Kenya/
Uganda), Diamond feat Davido – ‘Number
One’ (Remix) (Tanzania/Nigeria), Mafikizolo feat
May D – ‘Happiness’ (South Africa/Nigeria), and
Uhuru feat DJ Buckz, Oskido, Professor, Yuri Da
Cunha – ‘Y-tjukutja’ (South Africa/Angola), for that
award.
The Ghanaians definitely stand tall in the list and most likely to Annex the pretigious award.
Well, the only song likely to give the duo the hurdle is 'number one'...Diamond ft Davido. This song is great by all standards, super sweet lyrics.
If I were to bet on the hip hop album, I will definitely take a pass.
I have two African rappers to choose from.
Ice Prince.Zamani and the man behind the Sark brand, Sarkodie aka Obidi pon bidi.
For those who haven't listened to the 'fire of Zamani album, the one that actually got him the nomination, here is a gist of it.
It contains so many great tunes. Notable amongst them are; aboki, vip, komotion ft Wizkid, I swear ft French Montana and lot more. Currently signed to chocolate city and Universal music group. Yes he is the best sellable rapper in Nigeria and has an urge over Sarkodie in this category.
Sarkology which was released december last year definitely put Obidi pon bidi on the map.
'Dope' songs including 'preach ft Silvastone, ordinary love ft Tiwa Savage, Down on one.ft Fuse ODG and lot more that definitely help the Ghanaian chart topping artiste on level with Ice Prince Zamani.
Sarkodie is a versatile rapper, he can 'murder' both slow and fast temper beats.
Africa's fastest rapper and Ghana's pride is definitely proving a point that language can't be a barrier in music.
.......watch out for part 2 of the MTV Africa Music Awards Review.
