THE CHAIRMAN_M.I's Album review

Album-The Chairman
Producers-
MI,Reinhard,L37,Sarz,Pheelz,Sammy
Gyang,Vstix
Features-Chigurl, Koker, Wizkid, Phyno,
Runtown, Stormrex,
Moti Cakes, Reminisce, Nosa, Milli,
Olamide, I.J, Patoranking, Ice Prince,
Sarkodie, DJ Lambo, Seyi Shay, Emmy Ace,
Beanie Man, Debbie, Morell, Loose Kaynon,
Tuface, Sound Sultan, Oritsefemi, Frank
Edwards, Nanya
Running time-75mins
How are you a wolf and a lamb on the same
album? How is M.I coming off proud as a
peacock and yet humble as the pope, in the
space of 16 tracks, and a slap gulping skit?
Before we put M.I’s brain under a
microscope in search of answers, here’s a
quick definition.
Bar Bullying- When a rap album has bars
thick enough to cause a probable, wide
spread edit of rappers’ rhymebooks.
But this is not just quotable punchlines and
glorious hooks. The chairman album sounds
like the result of an extended period of
anxiety, overweighing thoughts, pressure,
and other deep seated emotions that can
only manifest through music. Some issues
are best expressed in rhyme. This is why
this album cannot hide 4 shades of M.I
Abaga’s mind, as revealed by the music.
These shades include
The Monkey, The Brother, The Human,
The Chairman
THE MONKEY
The Chairman album
is a story of course
(image above). It is
M.I in retrospect, and
the ride through points
where he was
burdened by anxiety
with no vessel to
release it all, except
hiphop. Up until the
*scream here* RISE
LIKE A FONEEX as
Chigurl so kindly
describes to us on the
track Monkey . The
music speaks of
beginnings, journeys
and prospective ends,
that is why Rich is the
song that comes after Monkey , expressing
that period of hope and conviction. The
state of mind you would be in if your
principal called you a monkey and showered
you with multi-slap combos.
You won’t only hear songs on the album,
you’ll hear effort and attention to detail,
and this is what constitutes the happy
marriage between his deep rooted thoughts
and well laced lyrics. The penmanship is
sophisticated in its own clarity. It is an
eruption of rhymes, heavy with thought
provoking meaning, so in effect it is like M.I
is not just rapping, he is thinking out loud,
and rhymes are falling into place by
themselves
The album is an asylum, a sanctuary for
not just rap but music lovers. And for the
record if hiphop is really dead, then M.I
is the Grim Reaper !
Besides that, he is also…..a brother.
THE BROTHER
In lyrical content the album speaks of
superiority, strife, limitations, lavish life,
triumph and a substantial amount of what
it is like to be lovestruck. The Chairman is
riddled with down to earth lines that sound
like they are coming from your guy in your
neighbourhood. You can’t feel alienated
when you hear something like this ‘’I dey tin
can like de rica…see my nigga from Bariga
and Gbagada if its M Abaga them dey feel
me like jerrycan’’ ( Track 9 The Middle ).
On Shekpe with Reminisce he is promising
to buy out the bar if you run into him. A
promise he makes with words slurring and
skipping.
He comes as a regular guy on the album,
but at the same time he urges on
Monkey ..”Call me Chairman, say it
properly…I’m a genius…an anomally’’.
Chairman yes, genius yes…but still, the 3
shade shows a side of M.I he needs
everyone to remember….all that he is….is a
human.
THE HUMAN………………THE HITMAKER
The Chairman album has 2 genres.
” Hiphop”, and ”’J ust good music” . Due to
shrewdly delegated features and all that
attention to detail, you can rip off all the
rapping on the compilation and still ride
through 16 experiences of fine jamming.
You want proof? Here are some points that
are purposefully structured to give a sweet
feel
On Monkey , listen to the 3:35 mark. Listen
as it goes from music to a spell cast on
instrumentals to come alive.
On The Middle, after the starting hook,
when M.I is going ‘’uhn’’…you wait for him
to sign in his verse and then the
unexpected happens. He goes………BADDO,
and Olamide comes charging into the verse
like a tiger.
On Bad Belle , if you love trap style of
rapping, welcome home, now ride that flow
that goes ‘’this year its clear by the wrist
wear we gon separate the real men from
the children.
On Shekpe , when he goes ”one shekpe
bottle standing on the wall” oh come on just
grab a bottle and sway side to side like an
intoxicated hobo, you’ll love it…we promise.
This man understands the art of music, and
the use of diverse sounds, which is why the
song Human Being signs in with a soft
version of Dhruva Aliman’s ‘Bottom of the
sea’ and floats into a vigorous hybrid tune.
Hybrid because it is very African and very
international at the same time.
The beats on this album seem to move with
you the hearer. Like they follow your pulse,
heartbeat, breathing, the works. It’s
enigmatic. And then when they bang,
stretch or just go thumping, it’s you who
follows with your most active or controlled
body movement (This depends on your
environment, so don’t listen to Millionaira
Champagne in an office or classroom…
they’ll send you out)
THE MAN…………….THE CHAIRMAN
Triumph manifests in the story. The Phoenix
is born from the ashes. He hits the clubs
with Bullion Vans and while others make it
rain he makes it Tsunami. Flamboyant? Yes.
But with all the advice on Enemies, and the
prayer for everyone on Yours and
Chairman……the man isn’t just bragging, he
is preaching to, praying for, and
empowering you. There are songs on this
album that will strengthen your hope and
resolve for success.
The music carries people along, M.I is not
rapping for M.I ,…he is rapping for all,and
here’s a practical exercise to prove it.
It will be said that there are simple lines on
the album. But consider this. This is the
same MI that said a few years ago ”I’m
starting to see haters love a nigga like a
lying dyke, verbal pugilist..I rap into an
iron mike’’ now the same MI says…. Say
cat sabi swim no mean say he be catfish.
Exercise: Take these two lines, dump them
on social media and see which one people
react to. This is the genius of the chairman
album, it is not selfish and detached in
lyrical over complication. It is music that
everyone can relate and react to.
Brother is so heartfelt that it can make you
seek out people you have discord with and
apologize.
Listening to Rich after a discouraging day
from work can move you half to tears.
Listening to Wheel Barrow will make you
want to turn up even if its 9am on a
Monday morning.
Listening to Monkey can make you whip out
a white handkerchief and go cultural.
Listening to Enemies will teach you to watch
what you tell people, especially you ladies
And then listening to Human Being will
teach you to cut people some slack, and
understand their limitations as mere people
like you.
Verdict: Due to the density of the bars on
this album we rate it A for Adamantium .
Quick Definition: Adamantium is the name
of the metal that Wolverine’s blades are
made of. It is fictitious you say? Good then,
like this album. It is out of this world.

Charter House vrs Shatta Wale:The Ordinary's Perspective.

The issue currently buzzing on social media at the is the law suit by Charter house.
It's a case many pundits are watching with keen interest.
But the truth be told, though Shatta Wale seems to love controversy, he was atleast real with most of the issues he raised in his four video 'diaries'.
It is a known fact most programs organised by Charter house usually have atleast a Nigerian artiste representing. Shatta Wale may be right, but from the perspective of a an Event Production house, its always business first. If Nigerian Musicians sell shows and are more preferred than Ghanaians, I do not see the fuss here.
On shatta wale's 'accusation' of fans sending request and being charged for that yet his music is played is pretty lame.
First of all, its always made known to the 'texters' ''that terms and conditions apply''.
So if your request does not meet their criteria you can not take them on that.
At least the point Shatta Wale made is that, Charter house needs to respect Ghanaian artistes and give them fair deals.
Shatta Wale goofed though with is style of approach.
In my opinion I feel the videos were abusive and had more personal attacks on the personality of Mr Iyiola Ayoade.
Ghana music awards which is organised by Charter house has given many Ghanaian artistes a face lift in their carreers. The award scheme may be full of controversies, the truth is that it is a human institution so it has its own flaws.
The way forward!
I think Shatta is a great artiste, talented by all standard to hit the international stage harder. However, to achieve this he needs a complete managerial overhaul.
Artiste management is not about just securing deals and gigs for artiste, but ensuring that what the artiste puts out positively builds his BRAND.
It was not surprising that Bull Dog was 'allegedly' the first to like the posts on facebook.
The Shatta Wale BRAND under Bull Dog may not see the light of the day untill a more positive attitude and technique is adopted.
It takes real talent to be able to compose and produce a master piece within 24hrs. You will appreciate the talent of Shatta Wale with the sound tracks he used in his video 'diaries'.
If its possible, Charter House and Shatta Wale should smoke the peace pipe. If other wise, lets hope the case turns out as peaceful as the NDC NPP case.

Sarkodie To Give Davido a KO??

Well well well! Seems music in Africa is dominated by two west African countries: Ghana and Nigeria.
The Channel O music Video Awards nominations are out.
Ghana got five(5) nominations. Sarkodie, R2bees and Shatta Wale battling with other African acts for honors.
Africa's best finest rapper and king of rap in Ghana, Sarkodie got nominations for illuminati hit song.
Most gifted video and gifted male artiste.
Easy for him huh! Think again. Africa's man of the moment Davido is leading the list with fove nominations. The 'Aye' hit maker will lock horns with Sarkodie for the most gifted vodeo of the year as well as gifted male artiste of the year.
Lets talk about the two videos!
Illumonati is classic hip hop tune and a well matched video to top it all. It can easily give Sarkodie the nod however, it has so much special effects that kill the originality of the entire concept.
'Aye' video on the other hand is the African Anthem of the moment. Authentic Afro beats, local setting, true African concept and very original in nature than illuminati.
So on the basis of originality, concept and setting, 'aye' stands taller than 'illuminati'. Tiwa Savage ft Don Jazzy 'eminado' also made it to that category and could be the surprise of the night.
Now, Gifted male. Hmmm, it will be a tough one but it is going to be a cool chop for the 'omlowo baba'; Davido.
He has alreadi won BET African Act, MAMAs African Artiste of the year and there is nothing stopping him on that night too.
Shatta Wale finally goes beyond Ghana!
Bull Dog should be congrated for how far he has branded the self acclaimed'dancehall king'. After recently being honored at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards as the best African Artiste, Shatta Wale is up again for another international award; gifted reggae/dancehall category for his banger 'everybody likes my thing'. He faces stif competion from Patoranking ft Tiwa Savage 'girlie o rmx' and previous winner Jese Jagz. Will Jesse Jagz prove his dominace or everybody really likes Shatta's thing? Only time will tell.
Chances of Shatta Wale? Hmmm, pretty slim if you ask me. Girlie o rmx is the reggae/dancehall tune of the moment. Making it to MTV Base African Chart number 4. Shatta Wale can still cause a 'scare' afterall 'everybody likes his thing'!
R2Bees also received
two nominations for their song Slow Down
which features Nigerian artiste Wizkid. They
were nominated in the Most Gifted Duo, Group

RISING STARS OF THE EAST! Drag B 'the mic addict!!!

Determination they say is a sure route to success. In this music industry one does not just wake up to fame or success especially for the good reasons.
One gentleman who believes in determination and passion is a guy I sat in the same class with during my primary school days.
He was a pretty naughty kid back then[lol], he found his heart beat at Senior high school.
I initially used to write him off, I under rated him so much back then.
But one thing I did notice was that, when we used to stay together after high school, this gentleman had his talent pushing itself out.
Back then (2008), he used to write songs for a friend who was competing in a radio talent hunt.
With all that, I really still didnt feel convinced that this guy could slay a beat with a microphone.
He eventually took up the challenge to chase his dream of becoming a rapper.
He lyrically 'murdered all the MCs in a Radio builsa Sunday rap battle.
Again, I was approached by a friend with this guy's demo (not because i'm a producer, but because I know a good song when I hear one. My talent.lol).I didnt listen to the demo because at the time I was busy working on a project.
I personally offered him the stage at Miss Buluk to prove his worth but he couldnt make it to the program.
Right after the program, I was hit yet with another demo of his and I was getting used to some cachy and mind blowing punchlines.
Just a few musicians can do rap in my local dialect(buli), the legendary Aboalik Kwame is the amongst the few to have done that.
Recently, I received an audio message from a friend, I asked him what it was because I didnt want to waste my bundle downloading ***t.
But out of curiousity I downloaded the audio and low and behold it happened to be a mind changing experience.
I heard raw talent, 'wicked and sick' punclines and above all it was I my local dialect.
What makes him unique is his perfect blend of literal devices. He is a rhyming genuis too!
Azumah Isaac a.k.a Drag B is one hell of a rapper. Raw talent, determination and a passion for success. No doubt on my mind, should he persue this passion, he will be one of the biggest mainstream acts.
Drag B, I officially throw a challenge to you. We have heard your flow in digital version, will you prove your worth on a live stage @missbuluk2015???

Chronicles of fame: Sarkodie as a study case

Tough times come and people with the urge for success go through tough times to become icons.
One of such people of our time is Ghana's man of the moment; Michael Kwesi Owusu Addo better known in showbiz as Sarkodie.
The multiple award winning artiste didnt wake up on the seat he is today. He worked blood and soul, went through the thick and thin to be at the top.
The BET award winning artiste at his hustling days like he has been reciting in his lyrics, used to perform at shows for just t-shirts.
He even used to walk as far as from Tema to mamobi to perform at shows. This is how passionate he has been throughout the years and there are no signs of him stopping now.
Recently, the MTV African Hiphop act of the year, released his critically acclaimed media 'diss' titled ''free press''. Sarkodie spoke his heart out in  a song which is generating so much controversy. Apparently the feud came after the hiplife grandpapa Reggie Rocstone jokely tweeted 'if Ghanaians knew how passionate Sarkodie was projecting Ghana music, they will build him a statue.''
Sarkodie probably used words in his lyrics which are explicit, but the Jesus truth is some of these media houses deserve it.
They do no work, they read other blogs and carlously do 'copy and paste'.
They do not have the spirit of true journalism to do background check on the stories they are writing.
They do not care if the story is true or not, with or without facts. All they care about is generating traffic to their 'next to nothing' blogs.
The Ghana online writers Association may have been quick enough to ban publications of Sarkodie and his label. It might be right, the hard question they should be battling is how effective is that so called ban?
GOWA should go to the drawing board and ensure that their members perform their basic duties. Ensure they write truthful and unbiased stories. Untill then, Sarkodie is right with his 'free press'!!!

CASTRO'S MUSICAL GENESIS!!

The birth name of Hiplife musician – Castro
– is Theophilus Tagoe . He was born in 1982
to Mrs Lydia Tagoe and Mr Coffie . Castro
spent his early years and some part of his
adulthood in Tarkoradi where he hails from .
Castro started his musical career at a very
tender age due to his love for music . He
later moved from Tarkoradi to Accra to
concentrate on his music career since Accra
is thought to be where a musician can easily
make a break - through.
Professionally , Castro joined mainstream
music in 2003 when he released his debut
album ‘ Sradenam ’ . Sradenam became an
instant hit in Ghana . Its popularity and the
lyrics that made up the song drove
musicians like Tripple M to record cover
versions of it .
In an era where music business was not
lucrative and difficult for musicians to
remain consistent, Castro was able to
maintain that uniformity and came out with
his second studio album – ‘ Toffee ’. Much
need not to be talked about ‘ Sradenam ’ and
‘Toffe ’ . The impact and the noise these two
albums generated was felt everywhere in
the country . Among the many musicians at
that time , Castro stood out from the crowd
because of his silky voice and his singing
prowess.
We cannot list the number of featured
tracks Castro has to his credit simply
because they are uncountable . He worked
with musicians such as 4 ×4, Tinny, Sarkodie ,
Abrewa Nana, Mzbel , Pope Skinny, Buk Bak,
Dasebre Dwamena, just to mention a few.
The history of Hiplife cannot be written
without making reference to somebody like
Castro . He contributed much to this genre
that is putting food on the tables of several
young guys and girls today .
Castro later moved from being a solo artiste
and formed a group with Shiloh and Screw
Face. With these three great musicians
coming together to form a trio , they named
their group Cashface – Castro (Ca ) , Shiloh
(sh ) , Screw Face ( face) . Many hit tracks like
‘Omega ’ was churned out from this group
until the group was later dissolved where
Castro went on with his solo projects just as
he had started at the beginning of his
career .
Many are the engineers Castro worked with .
Castro ’ s music journey cannot be complete
without mentioning engineers like Jay Q of
Q - Lex Production , Kaywa of Groove Zone
studios, Hammer of the Last Two Music
Group, Appietus of Creative Records, 2 Toff
of Nature Works Entertainment and a whole
lot .
Unlike many musicians who started this
same journey with Castro but couldn ’ t
survive the test of time, Castro remained on
top of his game . Hiplife has undergone
several changes , yet, he was able to stand
the test of time.
In the era of Gyama Hiplife through to
Crunk and then to Azonto , he failed not to
prove his worth . Castro performed on
several music platforms including Ghana
Music Awards and Ghana Meets Naija. He
had many awards to his credit. Castro was
recently nominated in the 2014 VGMAs , in
categories like Artiste of the Year , Vodafone
Song of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year,
Highlife Artiste of the Year , and Best
Collaboration of the Year .

His latest collaborations include Adonai
remix (Sarkodie ft Castro ), Personal Person
(D Black ft Castro ) , Ma Yentena ( Dada Hafco
ft Castro ) Odo Bekumi ( Funny Face ft Castro
& Samira ) Odo Pa (Castro ft Asamoah Gyan
& Kofi Kinaata ) .
As part of his dreams , Castro looked
forward to a day when he would be
superannuated as a musician and become a
music producer . This , according to him,
would enable him help young talented
underground musicians .
It is very sad that today, Castro De
Destroyer, known back in the days as
Ghana’ s 50 Cent is no more.
we send out our
deepest condolence …
His musical legacy can never be forgotten —
and his impact will always be remembered

UP AND CLOSE WITH DAVIDO

If local and international borders are walls,
Davido keeps smashing them down hit after
hit. Whether it’s a dance track that requires
one hand behind and one suspend in front,
or a love tune that brings out the farmer in
him, Davido’s tunes live on playlists across
Africa and beyond, making him the 2014
mascot of Afro-pop music.
He led the nominees pack at the MTV Africa
Music Awards, and stood along with other
artists for BET’s 2014 Best International
African act award. And on the day of the
Awards, he hit the stage, murdered his
performance, grabbed 2 awards and walked
out the building as a champion of the night.
Davido Adeleke is the 2014 icon of Afro-pop
royalty with collaborations round the
continent with names like Diamond
Platnumz, Mafikizolo, Dj Arafat and many
more. His hit single from 2013 Skelewu was
still a widely played banger when his next
hit ”Aye” dropped like a bomb, and set new
standards. Like becoming the most viewed
clip on Youtube in Nigeria.
Davido went on tour in the U.S and Canada
early in the year and shut down venues to
the extent of causing some ruckus with local
authorities.
Naturally we were curious as to the man
within the hits (and the numerous tattoos),
and here is the conversation we had with
Omo Baba Olowo.
So there are 2MAMAs wit your name on
them. How does this make you feel about
yourself?
I’m 21 years old and I’m living my dream. I
have come this far at my age and there is
still so much more to be done, and I won’t
stop until they are done
Are you able to attain this level of
success because you are special, or do
you think a lot of people your age can
too?
We are all special in our way of course. But
its not just me, if I can do it millions of
African youths can do better even better.
Why do you have so many Tattoos?
I started having tattoos when I was 15 and
in college I had a roommate who did tattoos
so he sort of influenced me.
Is there a thought process that went into
every single one you got?
Yes , all my tattoos mean something to me,
I didn’t just randomly get them.
Any plans to get more?
No, I have no space left
Before you went fully into music what
subject did you hate the most in school?
I was good in English especially literature, I
wrote plays and poems which helps me in
my music but I was bad in Maths.
At what point in your life did you know
you were going to be famous?
You can never really know, You just have to
go with the flow and with God’s blessing it
just happens and before you know it you
are there.
During your younger days spent in the
U.S, did you ever have a bully problem?
Never, Never.
What do you have to say to people who
think that you are cocky?
I don’t know, the thing is that you can’t
please everybody and not everyone can
know you.
On your last birthday, you left the club
riding on top of your car, how did this
come about?
Turned up!
How good a night was it?
It was a mad night , I had a great time.
What name would you give your first boy
child?
I don’t know, I’m not sure yet. When it
happens a name would surface.
Which Nigerian celeb would you fancy
going on a date with?
I don’t have any particular one in mind.
You B-red and shina Rambo, who gets
more girls?
B-red
What’s the magic behind the hits? How
do you keep doing it every time?
It’s God, It just keeps coming.
What’s the one Nigerian song you wish
you were the one who sang?
There’s no song I wish I sang.
What song do you listen to when you are
in a bad mood?
I don’t listen to music when i’m in a bad
mood, I just want to sleep it off.
Of all the popular dances ever to come up
worldwide can you do any apart from
skelewu. Like the jerk, the dougie, the
Gangnam style, yahoozee etc.
I only do the two step(Laughs out) , that’s
the money dance.
What was the idea behind the song All of
you?
It was a freestyle I did in Abuja with Gospel
before MAMAs was about to wrap up. I
think it was the last song recorded on the
album.
What’s your favorite club banger?

Why You Need A Record Label

Record labels in music are the companies that get your music produced, distributed, work for endorsement deals for their artistes, royalties and the promotion of works for the artiste.
Internationally and globally, there are so many lables.
Atlantic records, Universal music group, motown records, Warner Bros Records and many others that continue to shape and trim the works of artiste.
The story is very different in Africa especially Ghana.
In Ghana, an artiste that produces a single hit is quick to start his own label without even knowing a jack about what A Record label is.
A proper record label must have the following departments and even sometimes more.
*Manger
*Accounts $ sales Department
*Publicity/Promotion department
*Production Unit
*Radio and bloggers Unit
These are professionals working in every unit to make the artiste a bigger and stronger brand.
There have been instances in Ghana where artiste left their Labels to form 'their' own. For example, Stay Jay left Under one Entertainment and formed his own label in Ghana, D. Chyme after his hit single formed his own Record label: twi pop records, Asem left lynx Entertainment and formed WDM records.
Interestingly these artiste were better off with their mother labels than their 'shoddy' and ghost records they claim to have formed.

Recently Sarkodie came out with his own label; Sarkcess. Yes! Sarkodie is a bigger brand and with the finances to put together a strong label and this seems the perfect time.
Kid Cudi was a strong force in the hip hop world with Good Music. After forming his own TBT records, Kid Cudi is yet to be heard on the radio.
You've got to remember Record Labes have got marketing teams, press teams, radio
pluggers, accounts departments and when
you get bigger you need help with that stuff.
You need a good team around you. This makes record labels important.

Even Neil Young, an artist known for taking
an anti-corporate stance, recently sang the
praises of record companies , when
interviewed at a media conference. "What I like about record companies is that they
present and nurture artists," he said. "That
doesn't exist on iTunes, it doesn't exist on
Amazon. That's what a record company does,
and that's why I like my record company.
if you are an artiste that wants to do main stream music, then you should probably think about working with a Record Label.

PRAYE FINALLY BREAKS UP!

A group that became a houshold name after winning the nestcafe reality show has finally broken up.
Ever since the departure of Praye tintin, the remaining duo have struggled to maintain their position in the music industry.
After revealing plans of their 10th anniversary celebration, the group did not live to perform at the much talked about Nationwide tour.
The several rumors of their break up has finally been confirmed with making 'fingering' Selly of big brother Africa fame for the split.
The power of a woman indeed!
We wish them well in their solo carreers.

Shatta Wale And Samini's Beef Finally Over??

two top dancehall artistes in Ghana, Samini
and Shatta Wale, for some time now have been
throwing jabs at each other calling themselves
names. Several songs have been released by
these dancehall acts using foul words to describe
the other.
If what Shatta Wale is saying is anything to go by,
then OMG!Ghana.com can confirm that the feud
between him and Samini has come to an end.
Shatta Wale who appeared as a guest on last
Saturday’s Diva’s Show on TV3, showered praises
on Samini for the energy he exhibits during his
performances. He again defended Samini’s
performance at the recently held Ghana Music
Awards accusing Charter House, organizers of the
event, of not allowing the ‘Linda’ hitmaker to
perform with his band.
“When you get shows like Ghana Music Awards,
promoters don’t allow you to perform with your
band. Samini came on stage and found out that
that wasn’t his band because if that was his
band, he was going to deliver so good. When I
watch him with his own band, I like the way he
performs.”
He advised that promoters need to take artistes’
requests into consideration when they are master
planning for their events to help the artiste give
off his best during the show.
When Nana Aba Anamoah, host of the show
queried him on when he is collaborating with
Samini, the ‘Dancehall King’ hitmaker said ‘we will
be working on it don’t worry. I want it to be a
surprise”
He added that, “I’m an artiste and I need to work
with all the great artistes in Ghana. I like him you
know”
He revealed that he has recorded a track with
Sarkodie which will be released soon.
I sincerely hold my doubts about this. Recently Shatta Wale has come under serious attack for his negative publicity stunts and this might just be a twist of his tales.
Well, it will be the biggest news in Gh music but dont you fill it will also bring the Dancehall hype to a standstill??
We wish them well

DID SHATTA WALE'S MANAGER KILL KWAW KESSE'S MANAGER??

Since news broke last Thursday that the Police
had arrested Nana Asiamah Hanson aka Bulldog,
36, in connection with the murder of Fennec
Okyere, local showbiz circles have been abuzz
with one question.
“Did Bulldog, who is the manager of prominent
dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, kill Fennec
Okyere, manager of popular rap musician Kwaw
Kesse?”
Fennec Okyere was found dead in his house on
Spintex Road in Accra on March 13 , 2014. His
body was found in a pool of blood.
According to the Police, Bulldog was arrested last
week after a two-month surveillance for the
perpetrators of the alleged murder and has been
in police custody “to assist with investigations”.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic last Thursday, the
Director General of the CID, Commissioner of
Police (COP ) Mr. Prosper Agblor, told the Daily
Graphic that Bulldog is alleged to have threatened
Fennec on several occasions through voice and
text messages on phone.
He said investigations by the police established
that Bulldog had several confrontations with
Fennec and threatened to teach Fennec a lesson.
First Confrontation
Citing some of the instances, Mr. Agblor said on
November 26, 2012, Bulldog had a confrontation
with Fennec during a programme at the Accra
International Conference Centre dubbed "Night
with the Stars".
At the programme, organised by Joy FM, Kwaw
Kesse stepped on a banner with the inscription:
VIP, when he mounted the stage to perform. It
was reported that Bulldog, who managed VIP, a
music trio, was not happy and confronted Fennec
over the issue.
Fennec, on the other hand, tried to explain but,
according to reports, that explanation did not go
down well with the suspect, who organised some
men to chase Fennec and his group away from
the programme.
Another Confrontation
Later, Mr. Ablorh said, investigations showed that
during an entertainment discussion programme
on Peace FM, during which both Fennec and
Bulldog were interviewed, the suspect was
offended by the answers provided by Fennec to
questions from the host.
"After the programme, Bulldog called Fennec and
threatened to send his boys after him to teach
him a lesson and to get rid of him,” Mr. Agblor
said.
The CID?Director General said Fennec retorted
that, “the boys cannot do anything to him and
that he could talk to them to calm down because
he too has a group of boys he works with”.
Subsequently, the CID boss said, there
were a series of threatening voice calls and text
messages from unknown persons believed to be
agents of the suspect. The police investigations
also established that on March 12, 2014, Fennec
received a call from an unknown caller.
Unfortunately, Fennec was found dead at his
residence at Manet Gardens on the Spintex Road
the next morning.
“Surprisingly, the suspect went into hiding after
the murder of Fennec. The police monitored his
house and other places, including entertainment
shows, but he failed to show up,” Mr. Agblor said.
Expressions of Unbelief
But some pundits and observers of the showbiz
scene in Ghana have expressed their doubts over
allegations that Bulldog might have killed Fenec.
Notable among them is George Quaye, who is the
head of Media, Brands and Communication for
Charterhouse.
Speaking on Peace Fm’s Entertainment Review on
Saturday, George who used to be a working
colleague of Bulldog said that even though Bulldog
was an outgoing person and sometimes of a
rather tough disposition, he did not believe that
he could commit such a crime.
“I go way back with Bulldog and I admit that
sometimes he can be rowdy, but the Bulldog I
know is just ‘patapaa’ but will never raise his
hand or fight.”
“I am not the Police and can’t do their kind of
work because I don’t have their kind of expertise.
I am talking about the Bulldog that I know and I
believe that he is innocent.”
Mr. Socrate Safo of Movie Africa expressed similar
sentiments of unbelief. He said that Bulldog and
Fennec were not enemies.
“Many people do not know this, but I knew
Fennec and Bulldog were working tireless to form
an association for artistes’ managers but yet
when they come on air, they behave differently. I
have confidence that the Police Service will
unravel the mystery behind Fennec’s death. That
is what we all wish for now,” he stated.
One person, who was instrumental in the late
Fennec’s life, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has
added her voice to the issue. According to the
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, the
arrest of Bulldog could bring an end to Fennec’s
death case. To her, the family was very happy
that a suspect, who may have committed the
murder, had been arrested.
But for Lawyer Kwame Akuffo, the arrest of
Bulldog may not mean much.
Citifmonline.com quotes him as saying: “I don’t
think the gentleman should be a suspect at this
stage. I think the gentleman is only a person of
interest at this stage”.
Being a Lawyer with many years of experience,
Lawyer Akuffo believes that threatening text
messages and phone calls alone cannot be the
basis on which someone could be termed a
suspect.
Before the Criminal Investigation Department of
the Ghana Police Service can hold Bulldog as the
prime suspect, Lawyer Akuffo suggested that the
Police should be able to link him to the crime
scene by way of forensic test or conspiracy.

HYPOCRISY KILLING OUR MUSIC INDUSTRY

Everybody wants to produce works, sit back and feel very satisfied with the quality of the final product.
Our musicians have been waving the war against non made in Ghana stuff.
These artistes complain of the massive airplay foreign songs are enjoying in Ghana.
The Guinness Big Eruption concert came under massive attack with the two international acts (Akon and Big Sean) billed to perform on the night.
Our local acts argued that the companies do not patronise our local acts.
Again, after the VGMAs another controversy that took over was the huge sums of money the international acts were paid to perform.
The campaign against the neglect of our very own has been with us since independence.
Isn't it hypocritical to talk all the big grammar, point all the accusing fingers and end up toeing the same lane?
That is exactly how our local acts do!
They travel all the way to South Africa(with their crew) and shoot their so called quality videos there and then dump the visuals on Ghanaians.
Is it share luck of creativity and innovation or they just fancy the.celebrity trips and the tags attached to their videos (directed by Nick Campos).
If Ghanaian muscians want us to have faith in their works and probably patronise their work, they must start first.
Paying huge sums of money to shoot videos in foreign lands to the neglect of our own dying industry.
The call for change starts with our local artiste.
Practice what you PREACH! Untill then they must come again!

RISING STATE OF FAKE BRITISH AND AMERICAN ACCENT IN THE GHANAIAN SHOWBIZ

Every young man and woman today wants some kind of media attention. Thus we are in an era where being a celebrity matters most. It is a craze that has found its root deeply implanted in young women. All one needs to become celebrity today is to star in a local movie, go nude or host a t.v show and then create a fan page on facebook, twitter, instagram or any of the social media platforms.
You tune into a television station and your day is blown off by these wanna be celebrities with fake British or American accent.
They lack the right skills to drill 'celebrities that pass through their shows and most of the time it becomes so boring that celebrities turn to host their shows.
All you need to run your own show is good looks, better 'links', and you can host that 'whack' program of yours.
Most of these shows pathetically are copied ones from the Western world and negatively impact our own culture and industry.
The desire by most young folks to achieve celebrity status often misinforms and paints a blur picture of the Ghanaian showbiz Industry.
Our generation must rise to the occasion! Creativity and Innovation shoud be tools we the 'new' generation can employ to push our industry to greater heights.

CHARTER HOUSE FAVORED ME! SHATTA WALE ROARS!!

Shatta Wale is gradually becoming such an attention seeker. In our world we say he is acting so 'bitchy'.
Last year, at the 14th VGMAs he went hard on charter house for what he called 'robbery'. The question is, assuming the robbery was in favor of him Shatta Wale, would he have collected the  award?
Today Shatta Wale posted a supposed conversation between him and George Quaye of Charter House on facebook.
In the supposed chat, George Quaye also known as Aboagye said 'as for the award no shaking, I am with you and I believe things will go on well'.
This supposed conversation triggers so many questions.
Does it mean Charter house ACTUALLY favors some acts in Ghana?
Does it also mean Shatta Wale didn't deserve some of the awards he took?
With Shatta Wale's level of honesty and street credibility, why didn't he refuse the awards afterall the indications were that the PRO of Charter House was behind him.
I personally believe the VGMAs Board are humans as Shatta Wale, and are bound to make mistakes or omissions. Atleast having had a fair knowledge of the outcome of the VGMAs Shatta Wale could have pulled out to send the message straight.
Shatta Wale should spare as his gimmicks and out moded publicity stunts.
Two wrongs don't make a right so the 'righteous' Shatta Wale or St. Shatta Wale should come again.
Check the conversation between Shatta Wale and George Quaye aka Aboagye below.

MUST READ. GH MUSIC SHATTA WALE ANDMANAGEMENT SHOULD STOP PLAYING MIND GAMES

The past one year in the Ghanaian
music
industry has seen quite a dramatic turn of
events from Shatta Wale and his
management especially after the 14th edition
of the Ghana Music Awards when the artist
lost out on an award he believes he
deserved and it seems the same drama is
about being replicated as the same
individual and his manager have started
again.
In as much as I wish I could keep mute on
the drama exhibited by the self-acclaimed
dancehall King in Africa, Shatta Wale and his
management headed by Bulldog, I am
tempted to say all things that have a
beginning have an end therefore these mind
games and somehow “stupidity” must stop!!!
It is an indisputable fact that Shatta Wale
was the most talked about Ghanaian artist of
2014 thanks to the supposed rift between
himself and Samini that got him going.
His ‘going’ was however not only based on
the rift as he did a great job by virtually
releasing a single each day throughout the
year, something he still does even though
most of the songs are of poor sound quality
from my point as a radio DJ. This got him a
large and unreasonable following which any
artist could have within a very short time.
Shatta Wale since then has become a god
worshipped by many who will swallow
everything he says hook, line and sinker and
would also back anything he does without
‘reasoning’. I don’t think true fans do that.
True fans who wish your continuous success
will tell you in the face if you are messing up
but NO!! That’s not for the fans of Shatta
Wale.
After the disappointment at the 14th Edition
of the Ghana Music Awards, we all know the
outcome and how Shatta Wale went about
insulting virtually everybody who said
anything that sounded awkward to what his
fans and the ones around him would tell
him. Birds of the same feather, we say, flock
together and as such I’m tempted to think
they think along the same line.
Now fast forward to the 15th Edition of the
Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Prior to the awards, Shatta Wale had taken
to Facbook to explain why he was not
attending the prestigious event where he
had been nominated for several awards
including the biggest one on the night, Artist
of the year. The reason being that,
Charterhouse, organizers of the event turned
down his demanded GH¢70,000 to
performance on the night. This then resulted
in if no performance, then I’m not appearing
at the event for the awards.
I was however surprised when an artist who
had promised not to make an appearance at
the awards found it right to be there after
he had been announced winner of the artist
of the year to cause total traffic. The
funniest bit is when he kept singing the very
first song he released after the 2013 edition
of the Ghana Music Awards, Letter to
Charterhouse which sought to say he never
needed any award from the same
organizers. Who does that?
Quite characteristic of Shatta Wale, the
dancehall King drops another song, Letter to
Charterhouse Chapter 2 two days after the
event thanking the organizers for the
awards. Which kind of hypocrisy and
stupidity is this?
I was even shocked when at the introduction
the song, the artist says “Ei, I just wake up
wey I hear this news oo”. Really? So did he
not know he had won the artist of the year
and the popular song of the year? So what
led him to the event grounds and the reason
for singing “Letter to Charterhouse Chapter
2” when he appeared at the Accra
International Conference Center?
Enough said on the songs and all that. Now
to the ‘strange’ woman who took the awards
on behalf of the artist at the Ghana Music
Awards.Recent updates indicate that the
manager of the artist, Bulldog who would
jump at the least opportunity to keep his
artist’s name in the press and get us talking
about him has indicated his team is yet to
identify the ‘strange’ woman who took the
awards on their behalf. Did they care after
all? The awards were of no essence to them
so why fret over who ever took it? The award
was taken by the ‘strange’ woman who
needed it and that should be enough.
Read a piece culled from News-One on the
‘strange’ woman and why Shatta Wale made
an appearance at the AICC after the event;
NEWS-ONE contacted Shatta’s manager, Bull
Dog, to confirm the identity of the lady but
he said they do not know her.
“My brother, we don’t know her. We were
watching from home when we saw her going
on stage to pick the award and say she is a
lover of the SM family and was taking the
award on our behalf. But honestly, we do
not know her. I could have been there
myself to pick on his behalf but as I said
there were issues we could not reach a
compromise on.”
We were watching it at home when our
lights went off, so we moved to Osu to eat
and we were eating not far from the
stadium so it was on our way home that we
used the road in front of the venue and his
fans saw him.
“We could not disrespect them so Shatta had
to wave and so on. They asked why he was
not present and he explained the two issues
to them. They understood and that was it,”
Bull added.
Well, quite a good explanation I guess.
Lest I forget, the strategy and approach by
Shatta Wale and his team have worked
perfectly well but must also take note that a
lot of Ghanaians just like myself have “our
eyes opened” now just as Shatta Wale tells
Charterhouse in his new song.
I believe it is time the concert stopped but
I’m scared if the said artist would still find a
very solid feet should he stop the particular
approach he and his management adopted.
Well, it is never illegal to play mind games
with people to achieve what you want
though. If you took time to read this piece,
thank you and I need your critical opinions
and not the ‘hater’ tag.

M.anifest Outshines Sarkodie!!!

After the this year's VGMAs, rap enthusiasts have been pounding over the issue of who is the best rapper in Ghana.
There are so many talented rappers in Ghana but a few can stand the test of time.
There are but a few rappers in Ghana who can mount international stages and hold it down.
Sarkodie, M.anifest and EL seem to be the acts who are at the peak of their rap carreers.
Sarkodie is a class of his own. Twists better in the local dialect and makes his punchlines mega with the humor imterjoints.
His Sarkology album which had a couple of international features is gradually craving that niche for him as one of the finest rappers from Africa.
Sarkodie is very consistent when it comes to metaphors. However, he is very weak with the Urban language and one would easily tag him as an amateur rapper should you listen to ONLY his English raps.
M.anifest.
The 2013 rapper of the year is a force to reckon with in the rap industry.
Most of his beats are western produced and he has the urban language control to make good rap music. A man that started his rap carreer in the Western world is definitely a no under dog in the rap politics.
Consistency, flow, chemistry and metaphors all make his music worth listening. He is not so popular because in Ghana English rap doesnt sell.
EL
He is a singer, a producer, a sound engineer and a rapper! Versatility at its peak.
He understands the notes and sounds of his work very well and definitely knows how to bend his punchlines to fit the his beats.

Shatta Wale Crowned Artiste Of The Year!!

All the glits and glamor went down at the Accra Internation Conference Centre.
The much publicized event which was expected to start at 19hrs GMT.started around 20:30hrs GMT.
As usual, it started with the Red Carpet which was hosted by Gh one Tv's very own Amanda Jissih and Blaq Boi.
Several celebrities passed through elegantly exhibiting their sense of fashion.
For the first time Mzbel and Deborah Vannessah dressed decently.
The main event which was hosted by  last year's host: Eazzy and KOD (copy of BET2003/2004) started with amazing performances from Ghana.
Castro gave a spectacular performance and will definitely be remembered as one of the best performances of the night.
Many suprises came up during this year's VGMAs.
Elikem proposed to his Girlfriend on stage and Efya won the Best Female Vocal Performance for the fourth time in a row.
Arguably the best performance of the Night came from the king of live band and Africa's dancehall king; Andrew Emmanuel Samini.
He had a great night.
Crowd control, stage craft and costume were on point.
Yes, Okomfo Kwadee is not mad. He gave the crowd a throw back of his hits in the early 2000s.
Conspiciously missing at the VGMAs was Shatta wale who bagged the most coveted award; Artist of the year.
Sarkodie's Sarkology bagged him the highest awards for the night.

Why Shatta Wale won't be Performing Tonight

Earlier on, it was reported that Shatta Wale
will not be performing at the VGMA tonight.
According the music star, Charter House-
organizers of the VGMA could not meet his
performance fee of 70,000GHS which they
would have gladly paid even more for a foreign
artiste.
GhanaCelebrities.Com just spoke to another
popular Ghanaian musician who wants to
remain anonymous for now concerning the issue
—and he said, Shatta Wale is right because
Charter House takes too much ‘piss’ out of
Ghanaian artistes. “It is Shatta Wale’s time and
he has every right to make demands”, said the
artiste.

Shatta Wale Robbed Again by Charter House???

Ok folks we are just a day away from the much publicized and most anticipated celebrity party of the year; Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
This seems very unique and well planned regardless of the controversies.
For the first time the Nominees jam came to the North and it was star strudded.
Again, it is taking the trend of the Grammies, the artiste are throwing private pre_awards parties for the teams and fans.
Africa's leading media plaform, Soundcity is also giving the event a face-lift.
Soundcity is hosting the Pre-awards jam with thirty chart topping acts from Ghana and Nigeria.
For your information the standard tickets to the event have been fully booked. According to George Quaye, the PRO of Charter house, interested persons can only get the Premium(VIP) tickets and patrons should also be rest assured of 100% security at the venue.
That was just by the way.
For the pretigious award of tje night; Artiste of the year, Guru deserves it more than Shatta Wale.
For the year under review, the Empire Entertainment protege has churned out hit after hit.
He introduced a new dance move (alkayida) the year under review was basically filled with the phrase 'boys abr3'.
In as much as dancehall king was popular and the toast of many, it was released after boys abr3. Thus boys was released before dancehall king but it still competes for popuarity.
For performces, Shatta Wale might have an edge over Guru.
In terms of how people relate to the song, boys abr3 cuts across but dancehall king definitely has a limitation. Even paliarmentarians relate with boys abr3, the old men at home relate with boys abr3.
Finally on the basis of who is a marketable brand, Guru stands tall. No coporate body will go for a person with temper tantrums, irresponsible behaviour as a brand ambassador!!
That is my opinion by the way!!
Theghbuzz made some predictions for the industry awards and yes we had four correct. These are our predictions for the VGMAs tomorow!

Up And Close With Ghana's Most Influential Celebrity; Michael Owusu Addo

'Hustle no dey sleep, hustle no dey nap, RIP laziness'. I guess this has been the single motivating factor Sarkodie had when he  entered the Ghanaian music scene.
He may have wanted to be as rich as Sarkodie, his father's friend and a name that definitely inspired arguably Ghana's all time superstar.
Sarkodie started from humble beginnings, freestyling at events and concerts for free and others for just t-shirts.
Sarkodie started gaining grounds after the 'Kasahari' show on Adom fm and when he did covers for 'out here grinding' i'm so hood and many other international hits.
He started with his 'twisting', even challenging Twista to a rap battle.
With determination, passion for excellence and a desire to achieve success, Sarkodie worked the extra mile and achieved the unblievable.
The biggest hurt Sarkodie could have done to his brand would have been the infamous convict deal.
Call it a contract irregularity or a blessing in diaguise, it opened the door for one of the illustrous sons of Ghana to put the then dying Ghana music on the map.
The whole of Ghana was so excited about that but a few actually felt he wasn't 'ripe' for the limelight then. Remember the Sways and Colby's who were then the shining stars of convict?? Well, nobody knows where their music is today.
That deal challenged Sarkodie to work harder and he difinitely achieved fame and the A-list celebrity status without convict.
After his first joint with Edem ft Kwaw Kesse (keva), Sarkoidie has become a household name.

After championing the 'azonto era', Sarkodie didn't lay back.
He decided it was time to go global so he released the Sarkology album featuring several Heavy weights in Africa: Davido, Banky W, Ice Prince, Silver Stone, Tiwa Savage and several other known artiste.
The two time VGMAs artiste if the year, the Samsung Galaxy pocket ambassador, the face of Funmilk and Ghana's most influential celebrity has achieved a status that generations will forever remember.
He has come to stay, I was among the many who said he wouldn't last but who am I.lol.
Sarkodie has become a brand that every artiste wants to associate with. A brand that dominates locally and making a great impact globally.
He has won the BET Best African Act, nominated twice and consecutively for the MAMAs and now also nominated for the best international act in the World Music Awards.
Sarkodie wasn't born in America but he will one day rock shoulders with Jagga, Yeezy, Weezy and probably truely 'murder' Twista!!!

Akwaboah and the rest did their thing on stage, but M.anifest treated patrons to a night of Hip Hop made in Ghana, Medina to be precise!

The main event which was hosted by George Quaye of the 'pundits' fame was full of glamour and humour.
Notable amongst the awards was the MUSIGA merit award which was presented Madam Orkor Amattafio for here contribution to MUSIGA and Ghanaian music at large. AK Songstress Floors Becca, Mzbel and Co

Before writing this piece I have asked myself who the best female performer is in Ghana and to be frank it hasn't been easy settling on who the best is.
Just a few names may come up as far as the.best female is concern.
It is no other than Rebecca Acheampong better known in showbiz as Becca.
She is a muscian who knows her limits as far as crow control isconcern. She is gradually craving a niche for herself as a female force to reckon with. The only issue I have with her performances is the way she gets so emotional some times and tries to go over board when the crowd becomes electrifying.
Mzbel may be using 'nudity' and sex appeal to wow crowd during her performances, she is still one of the female acts that can turn a dead crowd into one worth witnessing.
She does so perfectly with her sexy approach but it seems a one way kind of style.
Besides the 'nudity' approach, she fumbles in a mature setting and she is definitely not the feminine act that can headline a show.
The stars of the future trio, Efya, Irene and Adine can't be left out of the few female stars who have good stage craft and crowd control.
the sexy and sassy African Neoul soul singer is gradually winning the hearts of many with her style and aggressive performance. She is full of energy and this is mostly seen in her singing prowess.
Irene, a typical reality star winner, does her performces to suit the crowd. She is an act who does her business on stage with passion and zeal. I am not surprised because most reality show winners are groomed to give interactive performances.
The list would be incomplete without the gospel Diva, Christiana Love. You are likely to tag her as a circular musician with her stage performnces. The energy, the crowd control and passion is so overwhelming.
So who actually is the best female performer???
The answer may be fast coming!!
Akosua Kwakye known in showbiz circles as Ak Songstress, the sensational up and coming dancehall musician may be the answer to the long time asked question.
At the VGMAs Nominees jam in Tamale when the crowd went almost dead, she was the singular 'star' that resurrected the lively energy in the crowd.
She understands what it takes to wow the crowd.
The 'dancehall Empress' as she calls herself gave patrons what they came for.
She was abled to assemble her dance moves inconsonance with her songs.
Yes she came on stage with a perfect stage craft, one that the crowd long desired. She brought out the energy that rythmed with the audience's.
Unlike the other acts of the night who were doing what I call the 'normal stroll', she brought out the best in her.
With good management, humility, and consistency, Ak Songstress will definitely go places!!
